Pakistani Bridal Dress

As part of my Yesterday’s Dreams HLF Young Roots project, I created a Pakistani bridal dress inspired by my grandparents’ wedding.

My project was inspired by family history and learning more about my ethnic background. After speaking to my grandad about his life in Pakistan and transitioning into the UK, I gained a large insight into his and my late grandmother’s marriage. As a tribute to an emotional but key part of his life, I decided to recapture the day by resembling the dress with a modern bridal dress twist purely from his memory.

The garment consists of a two piece suit, a dress and draped-over headscarf. The fitted bodice is attached to the skirt using gold trimming across the waistband. The skirt had hand painted henna flowers and finished with a gold border trim along the bottom edge.
